Water sometimes gets dirty if it has been raining for a long time, so to clean the water you need to filter it for an equally long period of time – Sometimes it feels like it is harder to clean it that it was to make it dirty… And the same goes with racism in Australia – What has been a murky, grubby water supply for a long time has had a lot of good people try and filter out the gunk, and today – while there are still dirty patches, some people say the water is getting clean enough to drink. On episode 2 of Everyday Greatness, we will talk to some of those good people who have been trying to filter the water - Australia medallist and co-founder of Yalari – Walter Stanley AM - who acknowledges that his successes in life were shaped by the education he received as a kid, so in 2005, along with his wife Liew, he founded Yalari - which offers similar opportunities for Indigenous children from regional and remote communities. We will also talk to former Sydney Swans captain Brett Kirk, who - when his former teammate – Adam Goodes – started getting booed by AFL crowds largely just because he is aboriginal, used his platform as a professional sports person to try and stamp out racism. We will also talk to Lowanna Grant – the daughter of Stan Grant. Lowanna has witnessed firsthand some of the dangerous work done by people like her father to try and make Australia as fair for indigenous Australians as it is for those of European heritage, and we will see if she thinks the racism water in Australia is clear enough to drink yet.
